It’s not enough to say that volunteering is important; what matters is that we all show up for our communities. At Gap Inc., our leaders know that.
People from across our organization—from store employees to the CEO—are partnering with local nonprofits across the country this Fall to volunteer as part of Gap Foundation’s 40th birthday, which we’re gearing up to celebrate on September 13 of this year. As a part of those efforts, last week some of our leaders volunteered in San Francisco and New York with young people from our This Way Ahead paid store internship program.
Giving back is woven into the DNA of our company, and has been since the beginning. Our co-founders Doris and Don Fisher believed that businesses and communities need to work together to thrive. We incorporate these values into every level of our organization to this day, in big and small ways.
It’s amazing what a difference one person can make by volunteering. Whether it’s mentoring a young person, fundraising, participating in a donation drive, or volunteering with a child’s PTA, that time contributes to a positive and significant change for our communities. And we can't wait to see what our employees will do this year.
