Gifts that Keep Giving on #GivingTuesday

Values, CompanyMandy Mooney, Global CommunicationsComment

That's what happens each Giving Tuesday — people across the globe not only give gifts to loved ones, they give back to the communities and causes they love.

The #GivingTuesday holiday, which officially kicked off in 2012, encourages companies, such as Gap Inc., to partner with community organizations to drive a giving message during the holiday season. Customers share their purchases and their passions on social media; nonprofits gain visibility. Give, give, win, win.

Here are some of the ways brands from across Gap Inc. are celebrating giving:

Athleta believes that strong, healthy women start with strong, healthy girls. No one shares that vision more than Girls on the Run, which provides girls with an interactive fitness program proven to build self-esteem during the pre-teen years. Athleta is Supporting Girls on the Run through a donation campaign. Shoppers can donate to Girls on the Run in-stores on December 1 and Athleta will match all funds raised up to $15,000.

Gap is proud to once again lend its voice to helping fight for an AIDS-free generation. Gap is partnering with (RED) by giving a $1 million donation to the Global Fund and creating an exclusive line of products for men, women and baby on and at the store at 54th and 5th Ave. in New York City.

Who says a selfie is selfish? Old Navy is donating $1 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BCGA) for every #UNselfie posted on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram when it includes @OldNavy from December 1-7. Plus, on December 1, Old Navy will donate 1% of total purchases made on any Gap Inc. brand credit card at Old Navy (in-store or online) to BGCA.

To participate, just snap a photo and share how you are giving back this holiday season, use the #UNselfie and tag @OldNavy on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram between Dec. 1 - 7.

If you're a Gap Inc. employee, Gap Foundation is giving you a chance to give a gift that will change a life through the new Gift Guide. Gifts range from $10 – $100 and include tangible ways to give to key programs that support teens, young adults, and women through programs like This Way Ahead and P.A.C.E. Gap Inc. employees can double their donations when they give gifts of $25 or more.

Happy gifting, and giving, this season.
