Major companies, including Gap Inc., are standing with California legislation to directly impact the harsh reality of climate change.

As recently reported in the Sacramento Business Journal, 24 companies — such as Levi Strauss & Co., The North Face and Ben & Jerry's — have signed a letter of support for California Senate Bill 350, which proposes regulations that would reduce the amount of petroleum used in vehicles and energy used in buildings by half. It also seeks to raise the amount of electricity derived from renewable sources by 50 percent.

“We know that tackling climate change is one of America's greatest economic opportunities of the 21st century and we applaud the California State Legislature for taking steps to help the state seize that opportunity," the letter states.

The letter goes on to acknowledge the steps taken by Gap Inc. and other companies to do their part to reduce environmental impacts. It states that this bill would help "advance a clean energy economy and create jobs by increasing renewable energy, improving the energy efficiency of our buildings, and reducing petroleum use throughout the state."
