Old Navy Tank Top Takes Turn As Empowerment Tool

Sometimes, the way to empowerment is a simple flip of the script.

When Rachel Taylor overheard a conversation between a mother and a daughter while shopping at her local Old Navy, she was hurt by their comments about a plus-sized piece of clothing.

"I couldn't help it; I started crying," she posted on her Facebook page. "I sat in the car crying for a long time but eventually went back inside to finish my shopping."

And Rachel wasn't going to walk out empty-handed or embarrassed. Instead, she took that tank top in question, tried it on and snapped a selfie proclaiming "I ended up buying that tank top because, it turns out, I look fierce in it."

Her fierceness reigned supreme on social media this week via a flood of compliments and support, including from Old Navy, which reached back out to her with a gift card.

While she's since set her Facebook post to private, for Rachel, it wasn't just about changing the conversation, it was about feeling good in her own skin—and one killer tank top.
