#LoveWhatYouGive: Fashion bloggers sound off on stepping up your style game this holiday

As we head into the final days to shop and ship for family and friends this holiday, Gap Inc. invited two of our favorite bloggers, Anh Sundstrom of 9to5Chic and Julia Engel of Gal Meets Glam, to the company's San Francisco headquarters to hear about which items they are coveting this holiday and their top gift picks and styles from the company's holiday campaign, #LoveWhatYouGive.

The conversation kicked off with the question of the day: how did they choose their outfits from the campaign (see their posts on 9to5Chic and Gal Meets Glam) and how did they mix pieces from our brands into one cohesive outfit?

Both bloggers built their outfits on key “hero” pieces — one item that inspired what the rest of their outfit was going to look like. For Anh, her hero piece was this Old Navy Sherpa Coat. She said, “I've been really into these shearling style outerwear pieces lately, so when I saw this coat from Old Navy, I knew that was the piece I wanted to build my outfit around.”

Julia built hers around a blush-colored blouse from Banana Republic. “I'm always drawn to feminine, frilly pieces, so it was pretty easy for me to pick out what I wanted from each store,” she said. “I started with this blush Banana Republic blouse and layered on from there. I got emails from friends saying, “I can't believe that vest is Old Navy!”

We also wanted to know their secrets for giving the best gift.

“Each brand speaks to a different person, and that's what you're doing when you're gifting, you're buying for an individual," Anh said.

When asked what she would give, Julia pointed to the BR Monogram Metallic Blazer she was wearing that day. “I fell in love with this Banana Republic blazer for myself, but I would totally gift it to my best friend or my sister.”

The experts have spoken. When it comes to giving the best gifts, look for hero pieces that are versatile but can inspire an entire outfit, think about the individual, and above all, #lovewhatyougive.
