Kids ages 5 through 12 were invited earlier this month to showcase their back-to-school style at the Kids Rockin’ Runway event hosted by Old Navy and Nickelodeon in the middle of Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade.

The fashion show was hosted by Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande, stars of the hit Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat. It featured a fun-filled, obstacle-course runway that mimicked the experience of getting ready for school. Obstacles included a pit of fluffy pillows, a bowl of foam cereal, a water mister shower station with larger-than-life hairdryers, a school bus-shaped bounce house, slides, hopscotch and more.

To prep for the runway, 1,000 budding fashion stars were given a $20 voucher to select back-to-school attire from the neighboring Old Navy store, choosing two pieces from the $10 and under sale.

The event was part of Old Navy’s back-to-school campaign, themed “Multiply Your Style,” which encourages kids to express every aspect of their personality through their style.

“Making shopping fun is in Old Navy’s DNA, so back-to-school shopping for us isn’t just about helping mom, but also wowing our kid customers,” said Ivan Wicksteed, Old Navy’s chief marketing officer.

“Experimenting with your look is part of the magic of the new school year, and we want to encourage and celebrate that playfulness.”
