Finishing Athleta’s ‘Try-athlon’ in style

Long before athleisure was the fashion topic du jour, Athleta was already challenging itself to make fashionable, functional clothes for the modern woman. Today, Athleta stays true to its muse: the woman who wants activewear that can be worn from morning to night.

This Fall, the brand is introducing "the only pants you need" — the Fit 6: Metro, Chaturanga, City, Ponte, Be Free and Sonar.

What's the best way to find your perfect fit of the bunch? A "Try-athlon," of course.

The idea behind Athleta's first-ever Try-athlon was simple: Try on different fits. Consult with stylists one-on-one, whether you're a yogi, a runner, a hiker or a city trekker. Watch the products in action as a trio of yoga instructors, each wearing a Fit 6 style, practiced Vinyasa on the second-floor loft of the brand's San Francisco store. Leave with your favorite new pants in hand — or worn right out of the store.

"These conform to my body through every pose and stretch," said Sarah, 24, a yoga professional, sporting the high-waisted Chaturanga capri pant. The Chat, as it's more commonly known, is recommended for warmer-weather days when full-length coverage of tights might be too much. Not surprisingly, the Chat is the go-to style for yoga practitioners of all levels.

For women who prefer to pound the pavement, mill some tread, or hit the trails instead of the yoga mat, the ultra light-weight Be Free running pant and wicking high-intensity workout Sonar enhance how athletic performance feels.

"It's part fashion, part function," says veteran Athleta stylist Sally Gerstein. "The Be Free lives up to its name with added pockets, so you can run more comfortably, and there's an extra bit of support in the Sonar with clean lines and simplicity for more focused training."

Overall, of the Fit 6, Sally says: "It covers all areas of what we need as athletes, whether we run, walk, travel, do yoga, pilates and for every body type."

It's easy to see how the Fit 6 line embodies "form follows function" for women who are always in motion. The Metro, City and Ponte pants seamlessly transition from day to a night out on the town. The yoga-pant comfiness of the Metro meets practicality with a pair of front and back pockets and comes in four different fits. The looser-fitting Featherweight Stretch silhouette of the City pant is UPF 50+ — perfect for sun-filled days of activity. And for business to business-casual transitions, the polished Ponte fit slips into nighttime so you can, too.

"After work, I'm grabbing dinner in the city later, so the edgy pocket placement on my Pontes were the perfect fit for today," gushes Athleta's Northwest District Manager, Melanie McNeill.

"It's really all about getting to know what's right for her lifestyle," Melanie says.
