From waitress to ‘Overnight Millionaire’

Raising three young boys under a modest duplex on a waitress’s salary hasn’t been easy for Karen Crider.

So imagine what $1 million will do for her family, courtesy of Old Navy.

The Salem, Oregon single mother can partially thank Amy Poehler for turning her into an “Overnight Millionaire.” Crider caught Poehler’s Old Navy Black Friday commercial on TV on Thanksgiving and made an impromptu trip to her nearest store in hopes of a shot at the grand prize. Her luck became a godsend.

“It means so much not to have to worry from month to month about how we’re going to support ourselves,” Karen said. “We can actually relax.”

Relaxing translates into a proper new home to accommodate Karen’s brood. It’s a long-overdue vacation for the family, which includes her boyfriend and his three kids too. And it also means a different kind of Christmas. “We can actually have some fun this year and splurge a little bit for the kids.”
