The scene’s become as classic as Linus’ “True Meaning of the Holiday” speech and, well, everything that is “A Christmas Story.”
We’re referring to Clark Griswold’s “lightacular” home display reveal in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” hands coming together to connect a mass of wires only to set the night sky ablaze with bright holiday cheer via seemingly thousands of lights.
Well thanks to Old Navy, the Griswolds are back and celebrating “All the Way” by bringing that Christmas magic to the brand’s new holiday TV campaign. Stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo and Juliette Lewis make an appearance in the first spot, featuring Pop Pants.
As Brent Mitchell, senior director of marketing for Old Navy, put it, “The Griswolds combine that wacky holiday spirit with nostalgia to break through the holiday madness and establish a connection with our customer.”
Keep an eye out for follow-up commercials that will bring back other “Rustys” and “Audreys” from the “Vacation” franchise.
And now’s the time to enter “The Old Navy Griswold Lightacular Challenge,” a light display contest where people can enter photos of their biggest and brightest displays through Dec. 9.
